RE: Port Aransas Texas campgrounds??

Ditto, never a return to Gulf Waters because of "management" attitude, rude customer relationships and a no refund policy regardless of a very serious situation back home. Your site is picked for you based on rotation amongst the site owners irrespective of very numerous vacancies. Costly? Yes, but no problem. Prefer Pioneer which was not sold. Sites a little tight but makes it easier to meet fine people from Pennsylvania and more. Didn't care for the State Park further down the beach. Check out Pioneer at: http://www.campingfriend.com/PioneerBeachResort/ Enjoy Texas!

RE: NEED CG NEAR SAN ANTONIO SEA WORLD

Ditto recommendations on both. Admiralty will drive you over to Sea World's front gate and pick you up at an agreed time, or earlier if you call. Saves not only the parking fee but a long walk. But, we need to walk more.....;) The Admiralty: http://www.admiraltyrvresort.com/ Blazing Star http://www.blazingstarrv.com/

RE: New Mexico: My home state on the Travel Channel!

Thanks Lynn. We will watch too. We traveled the northern part of your state, spent some time and enjoyed it all thoroughly. Plan to come back some day.

RE: San Antonio or New Orleans

Can't quarantee anything but coming back east on I-10, I would avoid peak commuter hours like 6-10 mornings and 3-8 evenings. Wrecks happen all day and night always and it's best to just relax, drive your best and be very cautious. Be prepared like a good road scout. 18 wheelers are the worst along with speeders. Be careful, but it's doable.

Bluntly, I'd say your question could be "heaven or hell". San Antonio absolutely with no doubt. http://i4.tinypic.com/23tmma9.jpg

RE: Anyone cancelling trips due to gas prices?

Frankly, it is refreshing to read all the positive responses about vacationing in spite of high gas prices. Fortifies my faith in campers enjoying the outdoors and companionship with families and fellow campers. We will do the same in a couple of weeks, getting about 9 miles/gal. So what. I like that: “spending the kid’s inheritance.” Let’m earn their own. If we didn’t have other obligations, we’d pack tomorrow and head down the coast for some fine Texas fishing, fun inna sun and great food. Otherwise it will be a couple weeks from now. Life is too short to wait for the impossibility of lower gas prices. Camp On fellow campers! Enjoy what little time we have on this sweet Earth. http://i32.tinypic.com/k3pt2e.jpg

RE: GULF WATERS RV RESORT- Port Aransas, TX.

The owners established the rules and regs according to the arrogant manager claiming it was all agreed upon by them. Let them change the rules to make sense and we still won't return. Too many places just as nice with better accommodating attitudes. Besides they owe me about $80.

RE: South Dakota Badlands

Good information and thank you all. We're thinking of a trip there in the near future.

RE: GULF WATERS RV RESORT- Port Aransas, TX.

We experienced the same rotation thing in a nearly empty park. Had prepaid reservations for three nights but after one night, received an emergency phone call from our daughter and we had to return home. I explained to the manager but there is NO REFUND,NO RAIN CHECK and no apology for anything. That was their policy without any exceptions. Nice place but we will never return.

RE: Where are the FireFlies??

Oh boy did we have them March 14-16 in our front clearing at the cabin in East Texas south of Crockett. The temps were right at the low 70's. It's always a joy to see them each year along with a pair of bats circling and feeding over the campfire thermals. Later you might spot a satellite crossing in the pitch black sky among a billion stars.

RE: Guadalupe RV Resort - Kerrville Texas

"new owners" scares me since we have always enjoyed that park and would hate to see services deteriorate. We will have to see in the near future.

RE: Big Bend NP

From the Big Bend Weather site: Looks like June, July, August are tops. The table below is based on average temperatures at the Panther Junction park headquarters. Temperatures in the higher mountain areas vary about 5-10 degrees below those shown, while temperatures along the Rio Grande can be 5-10 degrees higher. Sunshine is abundant most of the year. Infrequent and brief periods of cloudy weather may occur during the winter months. While snow is rare and generally light, occasional cold fronts can bring temperatures well below freezing. RE: Texas Gulf Area

Hello ear-doc2, Be sure to stop at the Texas Welcome Center at the state border (I-10) and pick up the free 2008 Travel Guide and state map. The guide includes good info and grid references on the map. A magnifying glass is a big help. There are myriad things to do and see in Galveston, Houston, and Corpus Christi. There are a couple ways to leave Galveston to get on hiwy 35 headed southwest. Goose Island State Park is nice and spring break should be over by the 24th. There are many RV parks in Fulton/Rockport and here’s a site of good spots in Corpus Christi. http://www.ccrvresorts.com/. A ferry ride over to Port Aransas is nice and there are plenty of RV parks. Little to see or do there except fish and eat. Galveston Guide: http://www.galveston.com/default.asp Houston Guide: http://www.houston-guide.com/ Corpus Christi Guide: http://www.cctexas.com/ Enjoy the trip and welcome to The Lone Star State!

RE: Rio Grande Raft Tours -- recommendations?

happybooker1, You can check the site below for more info: http://www.bigbendrivertours.com/ Some (maybe all) outfitters have an office in Terlingua where you meet. The Lajitas Crossing is used which is just 17 miles from Study Butte which is just 3 miles from the west entrance to the Park. Have no recommendation as to an outfitter. The float through Santa Elena Canyon sounds good and ends about where the canyon walls stop. Enjoy the trip! It's a great park.

RE: 3 weeks and don't know where to go

Welcome to the forum! I'd suggest going to the top of this page, type in Branson or any other location in the Search box, select 'search only in Campgrounds... etc., hit GO and discover much info about your selection. Happy camping!

RE: New Orleans....

http://www.antoines.com/. Haven't been there in many years but it was absolutely outstanding and likely still enjoys a great reputation. Old time waiters could take menu orders from 4 to 6 (probably more) and never write a thing down and never make a mistake on who ordered what. Oysters Rockefeller are not to be missed. http://www.commanderspalace.com/ is another great place. Bon appetite!

RE: XMAS IN GALVESTON

I can't find Jamaica Creek. Do you mean Jamaica Beach RV (http://www.jbrv.net/)? It's the newest on the Island and is supposed to be nice. Anyway, I'd like to recommend Fisherman's Wharf at the foot of 21st overlooking the Elissa sailing ship, which you can tour, and next to the Strand. Validated free parking. Also, the Moody Gardens Festival of Lights, 6 to 10pm, Dec 16 - Jan 5. p.s We still celebrate Christmas down here.

RE: Christmas Camping in Texas

There are nice secluded sites at Buescher State Park http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/findadest/parks/buescher/ or you might try Bastrop State Park, both within less than 3 hours. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/findadest/parks/bastrop/. Palo Duro is way out of the 6 hour range but there is nothing challenging about the entrance road in. Really an outstanding scenic park.

RE: georgetown tx

If it's quiet and convenient, would the dealer hook you up, let you stay for a couple nights to check operations? We made the mistake of taking a long trip before discovering many bugs in our new trailer and then experienced many headaches in trying to get things fixed. We would have never left the dealer if we had known and weren't so trusting.

Big Bend Ranch State Park

There is an interesting feature story by Louis B. Parks in the morning Houston Chronicle on our largest Texas state park (471 square miles) and the plans for improving visitors’ accommodations. It offers only limited lodging and primitive camping. One option would be to RV camp in Terlingua/Study Butte and day trip, or longer, into the ranch to hike and bike, tent, enjoy the solitude and scenery. Horses are welcome. Lots of info available at the following sites: Big Bend Ranch State Park: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/travel/stateparks/5339127.html Texas Parks and Wildlife site: http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/findadest/parks/big_bend_ranch/ and more: http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/publications/pwdpubs/media/pwd_br_p4507_1437_11_07.pdf
